A springtime view from my western MA community
Welcome to my website (Joany Kane here.) I'm wicked excited and blessed for upcoming fun! Some super cool things are on the horizon! Hope you'll check out below for the skinny, including a couple of books to purchase like my memoir (the website's namesake - Romancing Christmas.)
On Christmas Eve at a remote Massachusetts B&B, a disenchanted candlemaker must survive an evening of sinister merriment in order to find her missing artist aunt.
The story, which is a Gothic haunted house Christmas tale, takes place on Christmas Eve. Much like "A Christmas Carol" it's a mix of scares and heart. The visuals will be a mix of Tim Burton and Guillermo del Toro.
A social media cooking show host brings the ashes of a WWII nurse to a castle in Wales to lay to rest in a treasured garden and teams up with a British artist to uncover the nurse’s wartime love story.
I wrote the script to honor my dad who served as a medic in the European Campaign in WWII.
The movie was directed by Shari Grewal, executed produced by Jena Maciel and stars Lior Selve, Madeleine Coghlan, Federico Dordei and Peter Jason.
Peter played Uncle Richard in my first movie "The Christmas Card."

The first week of January 1999, two years before there was a Hallmark Channel, my life changed forever.
I met and fell in love with Logger Honey (Dave) and wrote THE CHRISTMAS CARD at the same time. Seven years later the movie based on my screenplay premiered on the Hallmark Channel.
The movie shattered the channel's ratings records, received an Emmy nomination for actor Ed Asner, helped launch the current Christmas TV movie craze, and has often been rated the most beloved holiday movie.
To this day (as of this writing in 2023) "The Christmas Card" is still a treasured favorite. I believe it endures because the love with which it was written shines through.
ROMANCING CHRISTMAS is about my path to writing "The Christmas Card" and the magical journey I've been on with Logger Honey since not only the premiere of our love story but also the premiere of the movie made from the screenplay he inspired.
If it wasn't for Logger Honey there would be no "The Christmas Card" movie that made it to the screen, and if it wasn't for "The Christmas Card" screenplay I was writing, there wouldn't be a Logger Honey in my life (23 years strong as of this writing.)
I met actress and artist GLORINDA MARIE thanks to "The Christmas Card." She played the spunky waitress who served Faith and Cody the crispy curly fries. :)
After my mom passed away in November 2019 I was consumed with grief. To honor her (and her love of unicorns) I wrote a children's story MY UNICORN ADVENTURE WITH MOM. Glorinda hand painted all of the images in the book.
In the story a young girl and her mom travel to an enchanted realm in search of unicorns encountering magical beings along the way. Written in honor of moms.
Glorinda Marie hand painted all of the images in "My Unicorn Adventure With Mom;" her art is filled with joy, magic, whimsy and love. She has her art available for sale as calendars, shirts, mugs, shoulder bags, notebooks and cards.
She has a Unicorn companion calendar for sale, too!
MAE & THE MUSCLEMEN is the true story about a 60+ year old Mae West who started a Vegas show with a handful of musclemen she plucked from Muscle Beach, CA. Mae's Vegas Revue of song and dance pre-dated the Chippendales by decades! The story will not only make an epic movie but an epic Broadway show as well.
Muscle Beach in the 1950s was a mecca for gymnasts, acrobats and musclemen. They'd put on free shows for thousands of spectators. The gent holding the women is Russ Saunders. He doubled for Dali as Jesus Christ in Dali's famous painting. The musclemen who toured with Mae shared their stories with me; I believe my screenplay is the only detailed document of this slice of Mae's life.
Mae West reinvented herself at a time when women didn't have many rights, and she did it when she was in her 60s!
Mae fell in love with one of the musclemen who toured with her and they would spend the rest of her life together - 30 years. He was by her side when she passed away in her 90s. He was 30 years her junior.
